OVERVIEW

The 21st century faces unprecedented challenges in the environment and science fields. The meanings of issues such as climate change and energy, and the decisions taken in relation to them, are associated with a variety of communication practices.

Research on communication can therefore provide a central contribution to current debates about scientific and environmental problems and issues of democracy, citizenship and power.
Environmental communication is a complex field of research; in recent years, studies on the subject have multiplied especially as regards the communication of climate change.

The course will examine theprincipal theories developed in the field, the frames used in environmental / climate communication, the barriers for creating effective communication and the challenges still open for this research area.
